Italian Sizing System

The Italian Tradition of Sizing

Silent Ridge Spark follows the European (EU) sizing standard, which originates from the Italian footwear industry. Unlike UK or US sizing, EU sizes represent the inner length of the shoe in Paris Points — each Paris Point equalling approximately 6.67mm.

Because our shoes are constructed on Italian lasts shaped by generations of master craftsmen, we strongly recommend measuring your feet before ordering. Foot shape, instep height, and width can vary significantly between individuals.

Feet are rarely identical in size. Always size for the larger foot and use our guide for the best fit.

Italian EU sizes are based on last length, not foot length — our chart accounts for this difference.

How to Measure

Measurement Guide

FOOT LENGTH WIDTH Heel Point Longest Toe

Place your foot flat on paper and trace the outline. Measure the distance from heel to longest toe.

Prepare Paper & Pencil

Place a blank sheet of A4 paper on a hard floor. Ensure the paper is flat and does not slide during the process.

Stand & Trace

Stand upright with your full weight on the foot. Hold the pencil vertically and trace the complete outline of your foot, keeping the pencil as close to the foot as possible.

Measure Foot Length

Using a ruler, measure from the very back of the heel (innermost point) to the tip of your longest toe. This measurement in centimetres is your foot length.

Measure Foot Width

At the widest part of the foot outline (typically across the ball of the foot), measure the width. This helps determine if you need a standard, slim, or wide fitting.

Find Your EU Size

Match your foot length measurement in centimetres to the size charts below. If you fall between sizes, we recommend sizing up for closed-toe styles.

Expert Tips

  • Measure your feet in the afternoon — feet naturally swell slightly throughout the day
  • Wear the socks or hosiery you intend to use with the shoes when measuring
  • Always stand while measuring — never measure while seated as this affects the result
  • Measure both feet and use the larger measurement for sizing

Silent Ridge Spark lasts are crafted in three widths to accommodate the full spectrum of foot shapes. Contact our atelier to request your preferred width.

Slim Fit

Designed for narrower feet. The Slim last provides a refined silhouette with a closer fit across the instep and forefoot. Ideal for our Oxford and Derby collections.

M

Standard Fit

Our default last width, suitable for the majority of foot shapes. Designed for a comfortable, elegant fit with adequate room across the ball of the foot.

W

Wide Fit

Crafted for wider feet or those who prefer additional volume. The Wide last maintains the same elegant profile while providing extra comfort across the toe box.

Oxford & Derby

True to Size

Our Oxford and Derby shoes are constructed on a narrow Italian last. They fit true to size with a precise, close fit. If you have a wider foot, we recommend ordering a half size up or requesting the Wide last.

Size Up Half

Due to the slip-on construction and the leather-lined insole which molds to the foot, we recommend sizing up half a size from your usual EU size. The fit will be snug initially and will relax with wear.

True to Size

Boots are designed to be worn with socks and fit true to EU size. The ankle construction provides a secure fit. For Chelsea boots, the elasticated gusset allows for slight size variation.

True to Size

Our luxury sneaker range fits true to standard EU sizing. The padded collar and cushioned insole provide immediate comfort. We recommend ordering your standard EU size for the best fit.

Size Down Half

If you fall between two EU sizes, we recommend sizing down half a size for open-toe sandals. The adjustable straps provide flexibility; however the footbed is shaped to a specific last size.

True to Size

Our heels and pumps are crafted on a standard Italian last and fit true to size. The cushioned forepad and suede lining provide comfort for extended wear. For pointed-toe styles, those with wider feet may wish to size up.
